Construction work continues to move forward on Rio Grande Campus. Waterproofing has been completed in the north atrium and has commenced in the south atrium. Underground electrical and plumbing also has started in both atriums. Crews have begun concrete removal in the basement corridor for telecom and plumbing trench and roof tear-off. The south mechanical chase slab and the footing between the ACCelerator and the south mechanical room have been poured. Window removal at level 2 has been completed. April 2019 | ACC Highland Phase 2
Construction crews continue work on Highland Campus Phase 2. The structural steel erection was completed in February. Shoring and formwork for the connector bridge and social stair foundation at the paseo have started. The paseo canopy steel has been erected, and the loading dock slab and sidewalks have been placed. One additional chiller and cooling tower have been installed to the existing chiller plant. Steel roof decking is complete and roofing work and wall framing are underway. Drywall installation has begun on the lower level.
March 2019 | Rio Grande Campus Renovations
At Rio Grande Campus, crews have completed pouring walls at the north basement mechanical room and are working on electrical and telecom systems. Metal wall framing also has gone up on the second and third floors, walls are being installed in the south atrium, and crews are pouring columns in the campus ACCelerator. In the coming weeks, work will focus on window removal and duct installation.
March 2019 | ACC Highland Phase 2
At ACC Highland Phase 2, construction teams continue work on framing, steel erection, and the exterior shell. Exterior window installation also continues, along with mechanical, electrical, and plumbing work.
February 2019 | Rio Grande Campus Renovations
Construction crews continue work on the lower level, including mechanical/electrical/plumbing overhead and chilled beam installation. The mechanical room slab in the north atrium and the underground electrical duct bank have been poured. Interior wall framing is underway on the second and third levels.
February 2019 | ACC Highland Phase 2
Construction continues on phase 2 at ACC Highland. Crews completed the removal of floor finishes in January and are now re-pouring concrete that was in disrepair. Work also continues on the new television studio and the music performance hall. Outside, lighting supports for the canopy are going up. Interior design consultants at Edwards Mulhausen also released new renderings of furniture, fixtures, and equipment showcasing design considerations for gathering spaces and the new culinary restaurant. January 2019 | ACC Highland Phase 2
Demolition of the southeast portion of the building is complete, and construction on the college’s drama and dance departments and assembly areas for occupancy load, vibration, and clear-span of columns/beams is underway. Steel erection, roofing, and underground utility work are ongoing.
Concrete has been poured for the meeting presentation hall and music performance hall and elevator shafts are complete. Mechanical, electrical, and plumbing work is 55 percent installed.
December 2018 | Southeast Travis County Land
Austin Community College will begin the process of developing a site master plan for the approximately 124 acres of land purchased in southeast Travis County as part of the 2014 bond project.
The college plans to use the site for a future regional workforce center that will provide much-needed space for programs such as automotive technology, building construction technology, heating, air conditioning and refrigeration technology, welding technology, jewelry, and more.
The $10.5 million purchase is financed through bonds approved by voters in November 2014.
December 2018 | ACC Highland Phase 2
Phase 2, which will add 415,000 square feet of flexible advanced facilities, features a creative digital media center, a health sciences/STEM regional simulation center, continuing education and workforce centers, and a culinary arts and hospitality management center with a student-operated restaurant. Crews are about 50 percent complete on a number of lower-level projects including mechanical/electrical/plumbing overhead and interior wall framing. Steel construction also is approximately 50 percent complete. Roofing installation is now underway. The metal roof deck is approximately 50 percent installed and air handling units in the three rooftop penthouses will be installed by end of January.
December 2018 | Rio Grande Campus Renovations
Construction crews are finalizing demolition of interior sections, most recently working on structural floor demolition. In addition, crews are installing hydronic piping and a new roof at the chiller house. In January, crews will continue floor demo and work on duct hangers and top track.
