Ability to Benefit

Banner Image "No GED or High School Diploma? No Problem! There's a new path for college."

How does it work?

It’s like early college start for adults.  You go to college early and earn a level 1 certificate.
Each certificate program is between 1 and 2 years, and the classes are all credit courses.

Who can join this program?

+ Ability to Benefit is only for adults who do not have a GED or high school diploma!

+ Students need to show that they can pass a college level class with some support.

+ Students need to qualify for Federal Financial Aid to join the program.
Not sure if you qualify?  Call 512-223-7533.

NOTE: If you have a GED or high school diploma, this program is not for you.
However, you can talk to one of our college advisors about financial aid!  You would also qualify for the Level Up program, which you can read more about here.

Is it really free?

Yes.  We sponsor your first two classes, and financial aid pays for the other classes.
At every step, we give you opportunities to show us that you are ready to continue.

What if I have a criminal conviction?

Please be advised that your prior conviction could keep you from being licensed by the State of Texas in certain careers.  If you have a question about your background and licensure, please make an appointment with Mechelle Marler mmarler@austincc.edu to determine your career options. You also have the right to request a criminal history evaluation letter from the applicable licensing agency.

Do you accept everyone?

No.  We only accept serious, dedicated applicants who focus 100% on their future.
Our students arrive on time, do homework, and commit to our 1-2 year program.

Sound like you?  Come join our all-star team!
