Dear Faculty Colleagues,
Welcome to this week’s Senate Standard. Below you will find information about the October 9 Full-Time Faculty Senate meeting. All full-time faculty are invited to attend (but only senators and their proxies can vote). The General Assembly is Friday this week, the committee looking at adjunct hiring practices is looking for a full-time faculty member to participate in the discussions (poll closes at 5PM on Thursday this week), and the call for committee members for the Instructional Technology Advisory Committee members closes at 5PM on Wednesday. The “hot off the presses” news is the results of the 2020 Climate Survey. You’ll be very interested in following the link to that report below. Among the “key insights” is the statement, “The college must make improvements in key areas, such as communication within and across units, top-down and bottom-up; transparent decision-making with opportunities for input; clarity around police and procedures with rationale for changes; and a culture that fosters respect and caring.” The Full-Time Faculty Senate continues to strive to do its part in transparent decision making as part of the Shared Governance structure. And, through the Senate Standard, we are contributing to improved communication. If you think of ways the Senate can contribute to improving the campus climate, let us know!

Climate Survey Results: Austin Community College District’s Office of Institutional Effectiveness and Analytics administers a climate survey every two to three years to provide insights into employee opinions and satisfaction in the college. In 2020, a survey was conducted between February 7 and March 6 with all 6,879 full- and part-time employees invited to participate. Volunteer Needed: Equity in Adjunct Faculty Hiring Committee [September 24 @ 5:00pm] – This committee will focus on rewriting adjunct faculty hiring procedures. They hope to have a draft policy completed by December. If interested, visit https://docs.google.com/forms/

Survey: Preferred Payroll Cycle [September 25 @ 5:00pm] – The new ERP (Workday) is going to allow the College to do many things that were not possible or convenient in Colleague. Many of the new and improved functionalities will be in the areas of HR and Payroll. Please take a minute or two to let us know if you have a preferred Payroll Cycle (or maybe you have no preference at all) by responding to a very brief, 3-question survey. Responses are anonymous. Current Action Items:
Volunteer to be an ITAC Rep [due September 23] – The next ITAC meeting is 9/30, so we’ll want to get our volunteers appointed ASAP. Remember, we’re looking for one Workforce and one Academic full-time faculty member, ones with significant experience with instructional technology and keeps an eye on emerging technologies.
