THE SENATE STANDARD – ISSUE 44

ACC Full-Time Faculty Senate Website

ACC Coronavirus page

Dear Faculty Colleagues,

Well, it is finally a slow news week for me here at ACC. What a relief! Living in interesting times makes me grateful for a little respite from nonstop changes. Enjoy a short and sweet Standard, and have a safe and healthy week.

Senate Meetings / Minutes / Agendas

Combined Association Meeting – On Friday, July 31, we will be having our final meeting of the year with the cabinet and leadership teams from the other three employee associations (CEA-Classified Employee Association, APTE-Association of Professional and Technical Employees, and AFA-Adjunct Faculty Association). I’ll post the agenda and minutes after the meeting.

Board Meeting  Monday, August 3 at 3pm is the next Board Meeting. The agenda hasn’t been released yet, but it will be soon. If you are interested, you can go to the ACC Board Web Page to see the agenda when it is posted and to learn how to watch the live stream of the meeting.

Newsworthy

New ACC Student Voices Commercial – I know that all of us are here for our students, and so I thought you’d enjoy taking a peek at this new commercial from ACC Marketing. It features our students sharing words of encouragement to others. Do you see a student you know? I’m not crying… YOU’RE CRYING! Share with others as you see fit.

LGBTQ+ Against Violence Petition – The LGBT eQuity Committee has asked ACC to sign the LGBTQ+ Against Violence Petition. This petition serves as a declaration against police brutality and racism, and to show solidarity between the LGBTQ+ Community and Black Lives Matter. I’ll be asking the Senate to vote on whether or not the Senate should encourage ACC to support this petition, and I welcome your thoughts too.

Current Action Items (These are reminders for things I’ve already sent out):

TLED Award Recipients – TLED is excited to share that they’ve found a fun and celebratory way to bring their Awards ceremony online! This week – Thursday, July 30th – we’ll honor outstanding faculty and staff with teaching and leadership excellence awards.

Please consider cheering on your colleagues at this special event. All ACC employees, students, and community members are invited to join!

RSVP here and see a full list of award recipients here.

Annual Educational Level Adjustment [due July 31 ←LAST REMINDER] – Human Resources is now going through the process of updating faculty education levels. If you received a new degree this year, please review the announcement and the form for more details.

Teaching an on-campus class this summer session? Your feedback is requested! [due by end of summer session two] – Samantha Croft is the Senate representative on our “ACC Back to Campus” Committee. She asks that faculty who are currently teaching on ACC campuses provide feedback about how our current plans and processes for returning to campus are working. If you are teaching on campus right now, please send your feedback to [email protected] so she can bring them to the attention of the committee.

Teaching and Learning Academy [←APPLICATION DEADLINE EXTENDED TO AUGUST 3RD] – You might want to consider participating in the 2020-2021 Teaching and Learning Academy. Anchored in the ACC Faculty Values and developed by twenty-five faculty for faculty, the Teaching and Learning Academy (TLA) contributes to student success by expanding faculty teaching practices.  Essential to the Teaching and Learning Academy is the creation of a cohort of faculty who will learn from each other by exploring the scholarship, art, and passion of teaching.

The Teaching and Learning Academy offers faculty 4 courses. Each course is 15 hours that includes 12 hours of asynchronous online coursework. The remaining 3 hours are completed in a Cohort Meeting the last Friday of each course from 8:30 to 11:30 AM.  Applications are now being accepted for Fall 2020.

Best,
