Dear Faculty Colleagues,

I want to let you all know that ACC administration has been considering what to do about grades this semester. They’ve been consulting with other institutions of higher education, and invited the Faculty Senate to collaborate with them on how to proceed.

On March 24-25, in response to this request from administration, I sent a survey out to all senators, asking them to weigh in on what we were calling Pass/Fail grading at the time. We’ve now changed the terminology to the kinder “Pass/No Pass”.

The results of the survey can be seen HERE. As you can see, senators considered many options, and made administration aware of many concerns. Administration is working on finalizing the policy now, and I am happy to announce that they have absolutely used the responses of the Senate in making their decision. They have offered Senate leadership the opportunity to weigh in on every draft of this policy.

I just wanted you to know that as we quickly pivot to support our students, the faculty voice is being considered. As always, if you have questions let me know. You should be hearing about the final policy soon.

I hope your transition online has been as smooth as possible. I’m grateful for all you are doing to keep learning happening at ACC.

Best,
