Visiting Scholar and Teaching & Learning Expert

Dr. James Rhem is a nationally recognized expert on teaching and learning. He has created several publications on teaching including the Teaching Professor newsletter and also the National Teaching and Learning FORUM where he serves as Executive Editor.


Dr. Rhem is a regular contributor to several blogs and organizations that focus on teaching and learning. He’s also contributed to several books on the topic, and is a sought after speaker.

ACC was lucky to have Dr. Rhem in residence as a visiting scholar for the month of April 2015. He officed at the HLC campus, and had the opportunity to meeting with faculty throughout his stay. His aim was to learn more about teaching at ACC and to help our faculty as they work to serve their students.

Rhem Riverboat Faculty Development Dinner Cruise

The Faculty Center for Teaching and Learning (FCTL) and your fellow ACC faculty members celebrated our visiting faculty expert, Dr. James Rhem. At this faculty-focused event, they had the opportunity to hear Dr. Rhem’s thoughts on teaching from his visits with faculty across the country and earn faculty development credit. They shared teaching philosophies, tips, student success stories, and dinner with colleagues while cruising Ladybird Lake in search of real Riverbats!

The Rhem Riverboat Faculty Development Dinner Cruise was held on Friday, April 24 from 6:00 pm to 9:30 pm on Capital Cruises’ M.V. Pride and Joy II riverboat on Ladybird Lake in downtown Austin, Texas.
