The Student Emergency Fund keeps students’ dreams alive through difficult circumstances

The ACC Foundation believes in making access to higher education affordable. However, unexpected situations can occur during the year that can force a student to withdraw from their classes.

The Student Emergency Fund provides immediate financial assistance to students who are faced with unforeseen emergencies during the semester such as unexpected medical expenses, loss of housing, car repairs… that would interfere with their education at ACC.

Here are two stories of students who received funds in the last year:

Female   Age: 33

Major: Sociology

Student’s home was robbed and her rent money for the next 2 months was stolen. She did not have a car and did not live in an area with bus service. She used a ride share service to attend classes and was running out of money to pay for transportation.

Outcome: Student received emergency funds fall 2017 and successfully completed the semester and graduated with Associate of Arts in Sociology December 2017.

Female   Age: 42

Major: Nursing

Student is a mother of four and planned to graduate from the Nursing Program in May. Her husband lost his job in the spring so the family had no source of income. Student had already been offered a job that would start upon graduation. Student needed living expenses for family.

Outcome: Student received emergency funds spring 2018 and successfully completed the semester. She received her Associate of Applied Science in Nursing, May 2018.

These funds are deeply important to our students as they work towards their educational goal. As ACC enrollment grows more students are in need of these funds. Please consider a gift to the ACC Foundation for the Student Emergency Fund or one of our scholarship programs.
