Orientation

  • When: Thursday, August 22, 2019, 8:15 a.m. – 3 p.m.
  • Where: RRC Rm. 3336
  • What to bring:  Paper and pen. Conservative street clothes or ACC teal scrubs are appropriate attire. Used ACC teal scrubs will be available for purchase at orientation by the ACC Student Nurses Association.
  • If you have not already done so, be sure to activate your ACC Gmail account, or you may miss important communication from your instructors.

Class Schedule

  • When: Mon. & Wed., 8 – 11:30 a.m.
  • Where: RRC Rm. 3336, unless otherwise specified
  • What to bring: Conservative street clothes or ACC teal scrubs are appropriate attire.
  • Calendar: Level 1 RRC (Google Calendar). This calendar is subject to change each semester. The final calendar will be distributed at orientation.

Skills Labs

  • When: See the calendar for dates; labs meet Tue./Thu. 8 a.m. – 12 noon or 12 noon – 4 p.m. Assignment to morning or afternoon lab will be made before classes begin. There will be limited opportunity for hardship switches only.
  • Where: RRC Rm. 3222, Nursing Skills Labs
  • What to bring:  Lab module information, watch with second hand, lab kit (when assigned), stethoscope/scissors as assigned
  • On the first week of classes, we will begin orientation sessions for the Simulations Lab and the EHR Tutor charting system. There will be three sessions available: Aug. 26, 1-3 p.m.; Aug. 29, 9-11 a.m.; and Aug. 29, 1-3 p.m. Please come to orientation prepared to sign up for one of these sessions.

Dosage Calculation Test

  • When: Wednesday, August 28, 2019 at 8 a.m.
  • Where: RRC Rooms 3334.03 (computer lab)
  • Review your dosage calculations! Once you have access to the course in Blackboard, there are dosage calculations tutorials within the course tutor lab.
  • Failure to pass the Dosage Calculation Test on the first attempt will be managed according to the policy for Critical Skill Performance Mastery in the Student Handbook.

Level Mastery Skills Check-off

  • When: August 30, 2019 beginning at 8 a.m.
  • Where: RRC 3222 and Nursing Skills Labs
  • You will be checked off on vital signs plus one additional 1105 skill. You must satisfactorily complete the assigned skills to continue in Level 1.
  • The nursing labs at RRC and EVC will be open the week before the semester begins. You are encouraged to take advantage of this practice opportunity.
  • Failure to pass the Mastery Level Check-off on the first attempt will be managed according to the policy for Critical Skills Performance Mastery in the Student Handbook.

Course Mastery Skills Check-off

  • Mastery skills check-offs will cover: Physical Assessment, Medication Administration, including PO and Injections (IM, sub-q), Urinary Catheterization, Enteral tubes, and Sterile Technique/Dressings.
  • You must pass all check-offs satisfactorily to continue in the course. Failure to pass the Mastery Level Check-off on the first attempt will be managed according to the policy for Critical Skill Performance Mastery in the Student Handbook.

Clinical Schedule

  • When: Check the course calendar. Dates/times will vary depending on clinical assignment. Clinical assignments will be made at orientation for most students.
  • Additional time at the clinical site for clinical preparation may be required prior to clinical each week.

Clinical Orientation

  • When: Students will be oriented to the clinical course during the first week of the course. Orientation to the clinical site will take place on Friday, September 6, 2019 at each clinical facility.

Clinical Preparation

  • What to bring: Students are expected to have their ACC ID badge, uniform, and all required equipment prior to the first clinical day.
  • Daily/weekly clinical assignments will be at the discretion of each instructor. Amount of time needed for preparation will differ depending on the nature of the assignment.
