Dr. Ana Carolina Castillo Crimm:
Ana Carolina Castillo Crimm received her Bachelor’s degree from the University of Miami, Master’s from Texas Tech University, and Doctorate from the University of Texas at Austin. Dr. Crimm served as a public school teacher and adjunct professor at both Austin Community College and Victoria College before assuming her present position in 1992 as Associate Professor at Sam Houston State University in Huntsville where she teaches courses on Texas, the Southwestern Borderlands, and Latin America.
She is co-author of Turn-of-the-Century Photographs from San Diego, Texas. Her most recent book, De León, a Tejano Family History, recounts the contributions of colonizer Martín de León, wife Patricia de la Garza, and their descendents in the Victoria region of South Texas. Additionally, Dr. Crimm’s articles and reviews have appeared in publications such as the Southwestern Historical Quarterly, the Journal of South Texas, Locus, and the Journal of Southern History.
An frequent presenter in forums ranging from the Southern and Western Historical Associations to the Texas State Historical Association, she is the recipient of numerous awards. Among these are the Excellence in Teaching Award from Sam Houston State University, SHSU’s “Sammie Award” for excellence in teaching and special support of student activities in both 1995 and 2002, and the Texas State Historical Association’s Mary Jon and J. P. Bryan Leadership Award in 2003 acknowledging her as the “Outstanding History Teacher in Texas.”
