Responsibilities include the installation and management of database management systems and supporting products in a network and client-server environment. Provides DBA support for products such as Microsoft SQL Server, MySQL, Cogsdale Performance Series, and other purchased products. Works under the assistance and guidance of experienced DBAs in performance of daily tasks associated with support functions. Works under the technical mentorship and guidance of senior DBAs in the standards and practices set within technical services.

Provides product support, maintenance, and installation for Microsoft SQL Server and MySQL databases.
Performs database administration for multiple development, test, and production databases.
Performs monitoring of databases.
Provides support of add-on database products.
Provides technical support for Cogsdale Performance Series applications, HEAT service management, and other purchased tools.
Provides support to application programmers for database products and SQL programming.
Performs duties as assigned.
Interfaces effectively with other groups within the information systems division.

Required Experience

Bachelor's degree or four years of equivalent work experience. Two years minimum of database programming or administration experience with relational database products. Two years minimum of experience supporting customers in an information systems department. Experience installing server-based products.

Required Skills

Working knowledge of a relational database management system.
Skill in analytical problem solving.
Working knowledge of SQL server.
Working knowledge of the SQL programming language.
Working knowledge of the Windows server operating system.
Proficient skill in written and oral communications.
Self-motivated to learn from online training.
Ability to deal effectively with others.
Ability to work flexible hours.
Ability to handle deadline pressures.
Ability to work overtime and with 24-hour on-call rotation responsibilities.
Ability to maintain regular attendance.
Ability to work as a member of a team.
Ability to work during Texas legislative session every two years with minimum vacation time off for six months.
