New ACC Scholarships Created Through $2,500 Donation From Local Community Service Group

The Town Lake Chapter of The Links, Inc. recently donated $2,500 to the Austin Community College Foundation to create two scholarships that will help pay for tuition, fees and books for two students of African descent for the following academic year at ACC.

“We want students of African descent to be able to afford higher education without being overwhelmed with debt once they graduate,” said Lora J. Livingston, scholarship committee chair for The Town Lake Links, Inc. “This scholarship will assist those students in achieving their educational goals.”

Eligible students must be of African descent and have an overall grade point average (GPA) of 2.5 in college work. Entering freshman or GED graduates are also eligible for the Town Lake Links, Inc. Scholarship and must achieve a 2.5 GPA after their first semester at ACC to maintain the scholarship.

“We are grateful for this generous donation from The Links, Inc. Town Lake Chapter, and appreciate their support in helping expand access to ACC for deserving students,” said Dr. Steve Kinslow, ACC interim president.

The Links, Inc. is an international organization of over 9,000 women who work towards common goals of purposeful service to its communities. The Town Lake Chapter was chartered in 1988 and has continued to enhance the quality of life for African-Americans in Austin through four national facets: The Arts, National Trends and Services, Services to Youth, and International Trends and Services.

The Austin Community College Foundation supports ACC through financial assistance and is led by a volunteer board of business and community leaders whose dedication to education supports and allows for the growth of college initiatives.
