ACC Board of Trustees Appoints President

The Austin Community College Board of Trustees Monday appointed Dr. Stephen Kinslow president. Acknowledging both the need for leadership stability as the college moves forward with important community initiatives, and the fact that Dr. Kinslow does not want a long-term administrative contract, the trustees set the term of his presidency at two years and signaled its intent for a national search to succeed Dr. Kinslow.

Dr. Kinslow served as interim President prior to and following the presidency of Dr. Robert Aguero, who resigned on April 11 for family and personal reasons. Dr. Kinslow has served ACC for 28 years, in both campus and district-wide administrative roles, and also has taught as an adjunct instructor. Most recently he has been the executive vice president of academic, student and campus affairs. He has been instrumental in developing the ACC Master Plan and actively involved in expanding ACC’s taxing district and its external partnerships.

“Steve Kinslow is a recognized leader in community colleges, a strong administrator, and a tireless advocate for increased access to ACC by all segments of the community,” said Dr. Barbara Mink, chair of the ACC Board of Trustees. “ACC and the community will be well served by his leadership.”

Dr. Kinslow has more than 32 years experience in community colleges – in academic, student, and business affairs. In his career he has been a classified, professional-technical, adjunct faculty, and administrative employee. Currently he chairs the Leadership Round Rock Planning Board and is active in the Round Rock Chamber of Commerce as well as many other community partnerships within the ACC service area. He is a former graduate of Leadership Austin and was honored last year as a Distinguished Graduate of the College of Education, University of Texas at Austin.

Dr. Kinslow has a doctorate degree from the University of Texas at Austin, a master’s degree from Southern Methodist University, and a bachelor’s degree from the University of Texas at Arlington. Prior to ACC, he served the Dallas County Community College District and was a public school teacher in Big Spring, Texas.

Austin Community College is a public, two-year college offering associate degrees and certificates in more than 180 areas. Each year more than 65,000 credit and continuing education students take advantage of ACC’s low tuition, small classes, convenient locations, and great instructors.
