ACC Dean Featured on National Public Radio

Does vocational and technical education limit students’ opportunities for higher education, or is it the best way to give students the necessary tools to join the 21st century workforce?

This is the question Austin Community College Executive Dean Thomas N. Applegate has been asked to answer during a discussion titled “A New Read on Vocational Education” airing on National Public Radio on Friday, June 17. Applegate is one of two panelists to be featured on the syndicated show Justice Talking. The program is being aired in Philadelphia before an audience of 3,000 at the National Forensics League Conference.

The discussion on vocational and technical education is in response to a recent proposal by President Bush to overhaul federal vocational education spending by redirecting the $1.3 billion budget to new technical education programs that emphasize academics.

Applegate is the past national president of the Association for Career and Technical Education which represents 28,000 career and technical educators at the secondary and post secondary level.
