ACC Commemorates Sept. 11 with Silence, Campus Forums

Austin – Faculty, students and staff at Austin Community College will pause for 11 seconds of silence on September the 11th at 7:56 a.m. to honor and remember those who lost their lives during the horrific and tragic events on September 11, 2001.

“I ask each faculty, staff member and student to acknowledge and remember the sacrifices made by so many that day for our freedom and our way of life,” ACC President Richard Fonté said. “These 11 seconds of silence acknowledge the heroic strength, the unparalleled solidarity, and the tragic loss felt by each American on September 11.”

A remembrance ceremony will be held at 11:45 a.m. on the Rio Grande Campus, followed by a panel discussion at 2:00 p.m. in the auditorium. ACC faculty will address several topics: 9/11…A Year of Perspective, The Trade-off between Security and Freedom and Terrorism and Foreign Policy in the Middle East.

Each of ACC’s six campuses will display a “We Will Not Forget” banner. Visual Communication Design students’ counter-terrorism posters will be on display at the Rio Grande Campus.
