Austin Community College Gears Up for Election

Austin – After the May 4 Austin Community College Board of Trustees election, four candidates seeking two trustee seats have advanced to a runoff election, which will be held on Saturday, June 1.

“Approximately 800 voters turned out during the early voting period, ” said Linda Young, special assistant to the president and elections administrator. “These numbers are higher than our initial projections, and we anticipate that even more voters will participate in Saturday’s election.”

Vying for Place 2 are John Hernandez, a real estate broker and Paul Sherr, a retired systems analyst. James McGuffee, an assistant professor at St. Edward’s University, and Nan McRaven, vice president of communications at Motorola, are running for Place 3.

On May 4, incumbent board chair Dr. Lillian Davis recaptured her seat for Place 1.
Longtime Austinite Della May Moore will step down after serving 20 years on the Board in Place 2. Dr. Carol Nasworthy will also retire after holding the Place 3 position for nearly 12 years.

Residents eligible to vote in this election must live in the Austin, Leander and Manor school districts.

An official winner will not be declared until Tuesday, June 4, at the ACC Board of Trustees special meeting to canvass and certify the votes.
