Committee Host Town Hall Meeting to Discuss Proposed ACC South Austin Campus

WHAT: South Austin Community Advisory Committee Meeting

WHEN: 6:30 -8:30 p.m., Thursday, May 30

WHERE: Travis High School Library, 1211 E. Oltorf

Background:

Austin Community College Board of Trustees appointed a South Austin Community Advisory Committee to make recommendations for program offerings at a proposed future campus located in South Austin. This is the Committee’s second public forum during which the results of a community survey about the proposed campus will be discussed.

The Committee is assisting ACC in efforts to expand the resources necessary to support a new campus and exploring possible long-term solutions to address the College’s lack of classroom space.

The proposed site is the vacated Albertson’s grocery store located at the Northeast corner of Manchaca and Stassney, across from Crockett High School.

The area of the community where this building is located has a large number of students attending ACC. According to the fall 2000 data, the 78745 zip code has the second largest number of ACC students. This zip code, and the seven adjoining zip codes of South Austin, account for 24 percent of the College’s total credit headcount. According to the Travis County Appraisal District, the land sits on 5.56 acres and the building occupies 56,972 square feet.
