WHAT: Bi-national Border Affairs Meeting For Education and Workforce

WHEN: Monday, July 8, 9:00 a.m.

WHERE: ACC’s Highland Business Center
5930 Middle Fiskville Rd., Rm. 103

Background

The Consul General of Mexico in Austin and State Rep. Richard Raymond will address education and workforce development issues across the Texas and Mexican border communities.

“The key to the future of Texas is additional funding for education from pre-school to college,” Raymond said. “Our institutes of higher learning, particularly our community colleges, are the cornerstones we must build on to provide an educated, well-trained workforce that can compete for good paying jobs in our global economy.”

Representatives from eight technological colleges in México and six community colleges in Texas are gathering to forge partnerships that will promote student and faculty exchanges; identify opportunities to share expertise in faculty development and distance education; and develop a regional workforce policy to assure greater cooperation between Texas and Mexican border institutions.

“Training and education will be the main transforming forces working on behalf of our joint endeavor of creating a commonality of economic and social achievements between Mexico and the United States,” Consul General Francisco Javier Alejo. “The development of human capital, in its broader sense, will be the basis of a modern, humane and fair society that will enrich both our nations. If we succeed in this, we shall set an example for the world.”
