Published Latino Writers Share Readings with Students

The Austin Community College District Creative Writing Department, El Centro – Center for Latino/Latin American Studies and Wings Press of San Antonio will host a literary festival with recognized Latino writers who will share their accomplishments with students.
Over the course of two days, February 27 and 28, writers John Phillip Santos, Raúl R. Salinas, Deborah Parédez, and Frances Treviño will be at ACC’s Eastview Campus, Multipurpose Room 8500.
Tuesday’s event showcases Salinas, author of “Un Trip Through the Mind Jail,” and Parédez, a poet featured in “Daughters of the Fifth Sun.” Conjunto Aztlan will open the festival with their spirited sounds and politically and culturally conscious lyrics.
On Wednesday, visitors will enjoy music by Conjunto Atzlan and readings from Treviño, a fellow for the National Endowment for the Humanities, and Santos, the first Mexican-American Rhodes Scholar.
Both events begin at 6 p.m. and are open to the public. Refreshments will be provided.
