VisCom Students Honored

Godwin’s Transfusion Self-Medicating Beverage

3D animation student Cleveland Dear won first prize in the Design Challenge category of “The Digital Game Design Competition: Game Court 2007,” a yearly UT Science & Technology event co-hosted by UT’s student game developers group (EGADS) and Austin Community College’s Continuing Education Video Game Development Technical Certification program.
The challenge for UT and ACC students was to create a game concept defying the violent and sexist themes that stereotype many popular digital games. The winning digital game concept incorporated blue-sky thinking, changed the rules of play, and had to be fun.

Meanwhile, graphic design student Ashlea Godwin traveled to San Francisco in August to attend the Adobe Design Achievement Awards Gala, held at the de Young Museum. Godwin’s package design, Transfusion Self Medicating Beverage, won an Honorable Mention in the Environmental Graphics and Packaging category. Godwin developed this project in Linda Smarzik’s Art Direction class where she developed a love for package design. Her project was displayed with other winners at the gala and is also part of the online gallery at www.adaagallery.com. As a competition winner she took home the Adobe software product of her choice: Dreamweaver.
