Website gives students one-stop access to a new career

Career Services Website

Getting There just got a little easier.

The online career center at www.austincc.edu/career debuted in August to give Austin Community College students access to the tools and information they need to plan a career or get a job.

The best part? This career center never closes.

“Any time, day or night, students can go online and look for information either to help them determine a major, do skills assessment, or identify jobs,” says Amber Kelley, Cypress Creek Campus dean of student services.

Students will have access to a range of features, including:

  • Career information, including an extensive online library and jobs database
  • Interactive tools to help choose a career
  • Business and industry information
  • A direct link to WorkSource employment services

“We’ve tried to load the website with every angle we could think of,” Kelley says. “What can I do with a major, or what majors get me to the job I want, or what schools offer this, or how much can I make? The answers are here.”

“Our students are so diverse in their needs and in their life,” Kelley says. “Some are at the midlife stage re-careering, but others may have just graduated. The online career center can pick up a person where they are and get them where they want to go.”

ACC developed the website in partnership with WorkSource, the publicly funded workforce system in Travis County. It serves as the region’s premier provider of training and employment solutions.

“WorkSource has a great repertoire of seminars on interviewing, resume writing, and networking (among others). They also have the WorkInTexas.com employment database and experts onsite who can help students maneuver through that system,” Kelley says.

“WorkSource was eager to partner on the website,” says Weston Sythoff, communication specialist at WorkSource.

“By partnering with ACC on the career website, WorkSource is able to position itself as a quality resource for career development and training services to a population that is exploring its role in the region’s current and future workforce.”

In addition, Sythoff says, “Both job seekers and employers will benefit from the new site.”

Job seekers will find a wealth of information and resources by following the links to WorkSource’s website (www.worksourceaustin.com), and employers will find an emerging workforce that is informed, trained, and well-qualified to fill critical positions in the workforce.
