Build a Park

Award-winning Project: Build a Park is in its sixth year! Through an ongoing collaboration with the Austin Parks Foundation and with continued support from ACC faculty, staff, and students, Student Life is still working to maintain and improve public parks in Austin. This year we’re spreading 18 tons of gravel for a major trail-surfacing project. And the first 200 volunteers will receive free T-shirts! Join us Saturday, November 17, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Krieg Field No. 4, located at 515 S. Pleasant Valley Rd. (see map).

Got Leadership? Learn how to become a better leader on November 16 as Dr. Andrew Tijerina, ACC professor, presents “The Next Step: How to Get Motivated to Get There.” Lunch provided! For more information call 223.6222 or email [email protected].

Evacuation Plan Book boothRead all about it! ACC’s own Adjunct English Professor Joe O’Connell has penned a new book that is making news. Evacuation Plan recently hit No. 1 best seller at Austin’s BookPeople. The novel tells the story of life and death in a residential hospice, loosely inspired by the time O’Connell spent with the terminally ill as a volunteer at Hospice Austin’s Christopher House. On November 18, look for Professor O’Connell at Texas Authors’ Day at the San Marcos Public Library.

ACC Librarian and Assistant Professor Ellie Collier has been selected as an emerging leader by the American Library Association. Only 120 librarians nationwide are chosen to participate in a program that promotes the highest quality library and information services and public access to information.

Spread the word. The Student Recruitment Office is offering campus tours to prospective students, parents, or community groups. “We’re excited for members of the community to see our campuses,” says K. Leigh Hamm Forell, student recruitment manager. “Whether it’s visiting one of our state-of-the-art nursing labs or just seeing what ACC is all about, we’re here to help.” Campuses available for tours include Northridge, Riverside, and Eastview. Tours may be scheduled by calling 223.7716 or making a reservation online.
