ACC Trustees declare election results official

Austin, TX – May 20, 2008 – The Board of Trustees for the Austin Community College District declared the May 10 election results official during a special meeting held Monday, May 19, at the college.

During the May 10 elections, 64.5 percent of voters chose to annex the remainder of the Round Rock Independent School District into the ACC District. As a result of the election and the board’s declaration, all RRISD residents are now eligible for in-district benefits including a 67 percent reduction in tuition rates and free enrollment for high school students in the Early College Start program. ACC will also build a new campus in Round Rock scheduled to open for the Fall 2010 semester.

ACC voters selected three new trustees and re-elected a current one on May 10. Nan McRaven was re-elected to place 3, while Raul Alvarez was elected to Place 5 and John-Michael Cortez to Place 2. Those candidates ran unopposed in their respective races.

Tim Mahoney, Harrison Keller, and Mike Reid were vying for the Place 1 seat. Mahoney received 48 percent of the votes, Keller 33 percent and Reid 18 percent. Mike Reid had withdrawn from the race prior to the election, but remained on the ballot because his withdrawal came after the deadline for ballot removal. A run-off election between Mahoney and Keller was scheduled for June 14; however, Mahoney was declared the winner after Harrison Keller withdrew on May 15.

The new trustees and the re-elected McRaven will be sworn into office during a board of trustees meeting to be held June 2 at ACC.
