ACC Hosts Constitution Debate

Event held at Eastview campus Wednesday, September 24

Austin, September 23, 2008Does the U.S. Constitution matter? Is there something in it you should be fighting for? The Constitution inspires, inflames, and informs. It fuels passion, sparks political rhetoric, and creates controversy. And, it’s the perfect topic for a debate.

“The Constitution is one of the most important documents in our history as well as in modern politics,” said Peck Young, director of ACC’s Center for Public Policy and Political Studies (CPPPS). “And, it is also probably the most debated document in our history.”

CPPPS along with ACC’s Government Department and the Social and Behavioral Sciences Division is hosting a constitutional debate September 24 at ACC’s Eastview Campus, Room 8500, from 6 to 8:30 p.m. ACC students, staff, and faculty are invited to join experts, peers, friends, and foe for what is expected to be one hotly contested night of learning and sharing.

“Last year, we had over 150 participants. This year, we expect even more,” added Carla Jackson, associate director of CPPPS.

The keynote speaker for the debate will be Dr. Gregory J. Vincent, Vice President for Diversity and Community Engagement at the University of Texas. His biography can be viewed at www.utexas.edu/diversity/about/bio.php.

This event is free and open to ACC students, staff, and faculty. For more information or questions, please contact Carla L. Jackson at (512) 223.7049 or at [email protected].
