New Installment Plan offered to Students

Tuition can be spread over four payments beginning this spring

October 21, 2008 – Austin, TX – Austin Community College is offering Central Texans a little economic relief just in time for spring registration. A new payment plan makes earning a college education more affordable. It allows students to spread their tuition bill over four installments without penalty.

“Once they register for classes, students can go to a cashier’s office and sign up for the installment plan contract. It’s that easy,” said Ben Ferrell, executive vice president of finance and administration.

The move is necessary to keep college affordable for Central Texans, said Dr. Stephen B. Kinslow, president of ACC.  More than 35,000 students registered this fall, nearly a 7 percent increase over last year.

“ACC provides residents the most affordable option for quality higher education and career training,” Kinslow added, “but even low tuition can be a stretch for struggling families.”

In-district residents pay $39 per credit hour; a full course load averages $1,000 per semester. The plan would break those payments into four equal installments of 25 percent or $250 over a 16-week semester.

Spring registration starts November 10 for current and former students and November 17 for new students. Those who have not attended ACC within the last year can easily reactivate their enrollment in time for registration by completing a new residency form in the Admissions Office.
