Friday-Sunday classes extend college to more people

Austin, TX —The Austin Community College District (ACC) announces five of its seven campuses will now offer ACC Weekend College with the expansion of the program to the Cypress Creek Campus beginning in the spring semester.

Among the fastest growing programs at ACC, Weekend College enrolled more than 3,000 students this fall, a 19 percent increase over last year.

“It’s nice to know that we are able to give students additional options to achieve their higher education goals,” says Linda Haywood, campus manager of the Cypress Creek Campus at 1555 Cypress Creek Rd. in Cedar Park.

Weekend College allows students to complete a college degree, certificate, or the transferable core curriculum while attending classes solely on weekends. In addition to Cypress Creek, other locations holding Weekend College are Eastview, Riverside, Northridge, and South Austin campuses.

“ACC started Weekend College to increase access to older students, those who are busy professionals and adults balancing family responsibilities, but we’re finding that weekend classes have broader appeal than that,” says Dr. Mary Hensley, ACC executive vice president of college operations. “Even our youngest students in the Early College Start Program appreciate the opportunity to take classes during quieter periods.”

Spring classes begin January 20. For students interested in flexible schedules, ACC also offers Distance Learning, and online and evening classes. For more information on ACC Weekend College visit austincc.edu, search “weekend.”
