The Austin Community College Foundation has announced a $25,000 donation from Silicon Labs to establish a scholarship for students majoring in mathematics, science, or applied technologies.

Ten Silicon Labs scholarships will be awarded for the 2009-10 academic year.

“The ACC Foundation appreciates this significant contribution from Silicon Labs,” says David Bender, scholarship chair for the ACC Foundation. “Their commitment to educational excellence and service to our community will have a significant impact on ACC students.”

Silicon Labs is a global enterprise that develops semiconductors that enable the analog world we live in to interact with the digital world of computing. The company’s products can be found inside many common consumer goods like set-top boxes, cell phones and navigation devices. The firm is committed to promoting education, particularly in math, science, and technology, as part of its community service.

“Silicon Labs is thrilled to partner with the ACC Foundation and the Austin Community College District,” says Everett Plante, vice president of Silicon Labs. “We believe strongly that our investment in youth today significantly improves our community in the future.”

The Silicon Lab scholarships are open to students who have an overall GPA of 3.0 for current college students or a B average for incoming high school graduates. Applicants must also enroll in at least six credits of coursework and demonstrate financial need.
