Friday Announcements from the President’s Office

ENROLLMENT

Not that faculty and staff need to be told, but enrollment is booming!  We expect our official 12th Class Day enrollment number to be around 39,000 credit students, an all-time high.  ACC is doing exceptionally well in its outreach strategies, particularly in attracting more Hispanics, Blacks, first in family to attend college, and the economically disadvantaged.  Building a stronger middle-class is what results from our collective efforts, and I appreciate your commitment to the success of every student we enroll.

SEMESTER SMART START

As a reminder to faculty, there is a wealth of helpful information and reference resources for you in the Semester Smart Start document.  To access, please visit (bookmark) http://www.austincc.edu/faculty/newsemester – thanks.  If you have suggestions for improving this resource, please share with Carol Johnson at [email protected].

STUDENT SUCCESS INITIATIVE

I have appreciated the many positive responses to the Student Success Initiative discussed at General Assembly.  As I indicated we would, we are sharing the new website where we will post information about our collaborative efforts to increase success of all students, across all student categories (race/ethnicity, gender, age, economic status).  The web site will continue to evolve (thanks to Susan Thomason for getting us off to a good start) and can be accessed at http://www.austincc.edu/success/ – visit often!  The web site has a pdf version of the handout distributed at General Assembly.

DEVELOPMENTAL EDUCATION

Congratulations to ACC’s Development Reading Department which has been awarded a THECB grant to develop accelerated modules for high-level developmental reading students.  The modules will be developed and then piloted in the Spring and Summer Semesters.  Thanks to Marilyn Burke, Mary Leonard, and Delores Segura.
