African American Cultural Center Hosts Renowned Debate Coach

Legendary debate coach Dr. Thomas Freeman will visit Austin Community College from 2 to 3:15 p.m. on Friday, April 2.

Freeman, who is visiting Austin for a symposium being held later that evening, will meet with ACC students, staff, and faculty in Building 2000, Room 2125, of the Eastview Campus, 3401 Webberville Rd. The ACC African American Cultural Center is hosting the visit.

Freeman joined Texas Southern University in 1949 and has since coached its debate team to international acclaim. Among his students were Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and Dr. Barbara Jordan.

“We are eager to welcome Dr. Freeman to Austin Community College,” says Dr. Roland Hayes, African American Cultural Center director. “I think our students can benefit from meeting someone of this caliber, who has achieved so much.”
