ACC Scholarships Help Pay for College

Apply now for an ACC scholarship

Need some help paying for college? The Austin Community College Foundation is now accepting applications for 2010-2011 scholarships for ACC students. The deadline for fall is June 1.

Michael Hernandez received a $1,500 commercial music management scholarship to cover tuition, books, and supplies.

Michael Hernandez received a $1,500 commercial music management scholarship to cover tuition, books, and supplies.

“There is a wide variety of scholarships available through the ACC Foundation, and we encourage students to submit an application,” says Stephanie Dempsey, executive director of the ACC Foundation. “It’s a wonderful opportunity to pay for classes with money that doesn’t have to be paid back.”

All students are eligible to apply; however, some scholarships give priority to students majoring in specific areas or dealing with particular personal circumstances. Awards range from $500 to $2,500, depending on the scholarship. | See scholarships list

Most scholarships require only the ACC scholarship application plus a 300-word essay. The process doesn’t take long, but the payoff can be huge – just ask Commercial Music Management student Michael Hernandez, 27.

“With essay writing and filling out the scholarship, it took me three hours,” says Hernandez, recipient of the Denius/Schulman Commercial Music Management Endowed Scholarship for 2009-2010.

“I was thrilled when I got the news,” says Hernandez, who graduates in December. “It was $1,500 I didn’t have to scramble to find.” He was able to cover tuition and books, as well as purchase music recording equipment.

The ACC Foundation will award a record amount in scholarships this coming year – approximately $410,000.

“It’s been a banner year for the Foundation, and we’re eager to get the funds in the hands of students,” says Dempsey.
