ACC Round Rock Now Open – and at Capacity

ACC’s newest campus in Round Rock just opened – and already it is at full capacity, with more than 5,000 students now enrolled. The college dedicated ACC Round Rock in late August, bringing together students, faculty, staff, and the community to celebrate ACC’s eighth full-service campus.

The event featured a dedication ceremony, a time capsule, campus tours, and entertainment by the ACC Jazz Ensemble.

“The opening of this campus represents a great step forward for the Round Rock community,” says Raymond Hartfield, who co-chaired the citizen steering committee that led the Round Rock ISD annexation effort. “It brings access to affordable, quality education closer to home. You don’t have to leave Round Rock to earn your degree or certificate.”

Residents of Round Rock ISD voted to join the ACC District in May 2008; the college broke ground on the Round Rock Campus the following February. ACC enrollment from Round Rock ZIP codes increased 93 percent from fall 2007 (pre-annexation) to fall 2010.

“The high levels of enrollment are a testament to the need for a campus in this area,” says Dr. Stephen B. Kinslow, ACC president/CEO. “We have a wealth of options here, from transferable core curriculum classes to workforce and technical degrees that allow students to move directly into a career. What we do here benefits individual students, local business and industry, and the community as a whole.”

Nursing is among the programs offered at ACC Round Rock.

“The facility is spectacular. It’s state-of-the-art,” says nursing student Mikel Harsch. “Everything we could ever want as students is here.”

Other programs at the Round Rock Campus include Automotive Technology, Biotechnology, Building Construction Technology, Electronics, Medical Laboratory Technology, Surgical Technology, and Welding Technology; the campus also offers noncredit Continuing Education and Customized Training.

Principles of sustainable design guided many aspects of campus construction, as ACC is striving to achieve Silver Status from the LEED rating system, established by the U.S. Green Building Council.
