Elgin Center Registration Roundup February 1

Classes begin at ACC’s new Elgin Center February 14. Residents can enroll at ACC and register now or get assistance February 1 at the Registration Roundup.

“ACC is excited to offer a wonderful selection of classes in Elgin this spring,” says Dr. Luanne Preston, executive director of school relations and supervisor of ACC’s centers. “Whether your goal is to earn college credit or just have fun and grow personally, you’ll find a variety of courses that appeal to you.”

Classes offered this semester include Personal Computing, Spanish I, Introduction to Psychology, Life on Earth, Introduction to the Visual Arts, Introduction to Speech Communication, and offerings in English, Government, History, and Math. Registration closes February 9.

Students must complete the ACC admissions process, including an online application and an advising session, before they can register for classes. College representatives will provide one-stop assistance with admissions, advising, financial aid information, and course registration during the ACC Elgin Center Registration Roundup Tuesday, February 1, 5-7 p.m. at the center, located at Elgin Elementary South, 902 W. Second St.

“This is an excellent opportunity for residents to see the center and begin to experience what ACC has to offer,” says Dr. Preston. “Residents of Elgin ISD have access to a variety of benefits now that they’re part of the ACC District.”

Elgin ISD voters chose to join the ACC District last fall. Residents now pay the low, in-district tuition rate of $42 per credit hour (a 72 percent drop from the $150 per hour out-of-district rate). For a typical 3-credit course, in-district residents pay $174 in tuition and fees. Senior citizens (65+) may enroll in up to six tuition-free credit hours, or 2 typical classes, per semester when space is available. Registration for tuition-waived classes takes place during the add/drop period (February 14-16 for spring 2011 classes at the Elgin Center).

The college is finalizing plans for the new ACC Elgin Campus, with plans to break ground later this year on the property at U.S. Highway 290 and County Line Road. The ACC Elgin Campus will offer programs important to the community, including core curriculum/academic transfer courses, agriculture-related studies (such as Veterinary Technician and Land Management), Graphic Design and Digital Media programs, and more.

ACC will continue to offer classes at the Elgin Center each semester until the new campus opens in fall 2013.
