Legislative Update: Meetings with Lawmakers and More

ACC continues to monitor developments at the Texas Capitol. While lawmakers have filed fewer bills thus far this session, there are many bills impacting community colleges. Click here to access the Texas Association of Community Colleges (TACC) Advocates Network bill tracking feature.

Members of the Board of Trustees and ACC staff are meeting with all legislators from the college’s service area; trustees and staff also participated in national legislative advocacy in Washington, D.C. in February.

The Texas House and Senate have completed committee assignments. Follow these links for membership of the House Committee on Higher Education, House Committee on Appropriations, Senate Committee on Higher Education, and Senate Committee on Finance. The Senate Committee on Finance focused on community colleges and SB1 February 8. ACC staff attended the meeting as well as Governor Perry’s State of the State address.

Dozens of ACC students took part in TACC’s Community College Day at the Capitol February 2. The event gave community college students from across the state – more than 700 in all – an opportunity to meet lawmakers, ask questions, and share their concerns.
