Facility programming and consulting completed the Elgin Campus building program in March. This program consists of all of the spaces to be included in the building, with definition of each. Details include square footage of rooms, adjacencies, mechanical/electrical/plumbing requirements, room finishes, and furniture/fixtures/equipment requirements.
Cost estimates are associated with each type of space, and the program works within the given budget for construction.
The Elgin Campus program includes 11 classrooms, one biology lab, computer labs, learning lab, testing lab, library and media center, faculty and adjunct faculty suites, student support spaces (welcome center, admissions and records, financial aid, counseling and advising), cashier, campus administration, campus police, student life and student commons, bookstore, and all associated support spaces.
O’Connell Robertson has incorporated the building program into the schematic design for the building. We are working with a building design for a three-story building, with approximately 65,000 total gross square feet.
Building elevations are also being developed with the floor plans in the schematic design phase. We have met with every campus department to discuss the layout for their area, and O’Connell Robertson is incorporating the feedback into the design with a schematic design package to be finalized in early May.
O’Connell Robertson has also been working on the master plan for the site for ultimate build-out. The team has met with the City of Elgin to discuss the project, and there have been meetings with the ACC Steering Committee to discuss the campus master plan. O’Connell Robertson is working to complete the master plan document next month.
The Elgin Campus master plan reflects how the site is expected to grow over the coming years as additional construction phases occur. This planning ensures adequate facilities and parking capacity as the campus grows over time and takes into account proper infrastructure, circulation, and a cohesive design concept that relates to the specific site challenges and amenities.
ACC, O’Connell Robertson, and Skanska have developed a project schedule that reflects appropriate time allotted to each phase of design, permitting, construction, and move-in.
Design should wrap up in fall, with construction expected to commence in early 2012.
The Elgin Campus is scheduled to open for the fall semester 2013. Classes currently are held at the Elgin Center.

What happened to breaking ground on the Elgin campus in early 2011?
The city of Hutto just recently passed a similar measure to allow for a college in their town and they will be breaking ground in only a few months.
Hasn’t ACC already had enough time to plan and meet over the proposed campus,it’s been several months already they need to kick it in to high gear so there will not be any delays to the early 2013 open date.
The ACC setup at the high school is a joke, they have very few classes with poor registration. Poor enough to where they recently canceled the College Allegra class for summer 2011, a big disappointment for at least four of Elgin’s potential college students.

Thank you for your questions, Adam. The Elgin Campus remains on schedule to open for the fall semester of 2013, as planned. A groundbreaking ceremony has not yet been scheduled, but actual construction is expected to begin at the end of 2011.
When it opens, the campus will accommodate approximately 1,500 students and provide the space for a wider variety of classes than we can offer at the current Elgin Center.
Elgin residents have access now to lower, in-district tuition rates. If you can’t find the class you need at the center, be sure to check out online classes or visit the nearby Eastview Campus for other options.

Is there a date for completion or just an estimate fall 2013?
My question still stands what happen to breaking ground in early 2011? Was that not the plan have I been misinformed?
Is there a date for breaking ground or just an estimate? Is there a deadline set for knowing when the date for construction will be? Is there any chance construction will not start in 2011?
What are we waiting for right now?
The news and plans are taking a long time to trickle down to the Elgin public.

Dont you think since Acc Bastrop Campus failed Elgin campus should be bigger dont you think were going to be like Round Rock and open with full capacity. The campus in Kyle is suppose to be expanded due to san marcos fail to pass, I think the campus is going to need to be expanded soon.

Has there been a decision on the programs that will be offered there? I have heard rumors that it will become an Agriculture campus, is this true? Will there be an opprotunity to start a Collegiate FFA program?

Sorry for the delay on posting your comments. We continue to have good news to share about the ACC Elgin Campus. They’re still working out the date for the groundbreaking ceremony. We’ll get the info out as soon as the date is finalized. The public is definitely invited! The fall 2013 completion date is an estimate simply because construction projects are dependent on weather and other unforeseen occurrences. However, the facilities team is working aggressively to meet that goal and did so with our last two campuses, in South Austin and Round Rock.
In regard to programs of study, the Elgin ISD service plan includes the following information:
“Comprehensive and specific workforce training programs in more than 100 workforce education degrees, including agriculture programs (e.g., Veterinary Technician, Animal Science, Environmental Science, Land Management, or others), and Graphics Design/Visual Communication/Digital Media-Based Programs. Applied Technologies (e.g., Building Construction, Welding, and others) may be offered in partnership with local school districts. In a later phase, Transportation/Logistics Support may be offered and certain entry-level health programs may be offered in shared hospital or other facilities.â€
Thank you for your interest in ACC’s progress in Elgin. Be sure to bookmark the Elgin Campus website for construction updates.
Also, stop by the Elgin Center on July 25-28 for a Registration Round Up. It’s a great opportunity for residents to begin work now on their college degree! Call the center at 285.3934 in Elgin for more information.
