French & English Combine on Stage for “Literary Follies” at Rio Grande

ACC French students take the stage this weekend for the sixth edition of Illustre-Stage, a French-English play. They perform “Literary Follies” at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday, June 24-25, in the Rio Grande Campus Gallery Theater.

French Adjunct Professor Véronique Mazet wrote and directed “Literary Follies,” based on the tales of “Little Red Riding Hood” and Moliere’s “Don Juan.” The cast includes current and former ACC students, French Club members, and other French speakers and enthusiasts.

Performers speak in both French and English language, but music plays an important role in making the play accessible to an English audience, says Mazet. “Especially in a bilingual play, music kind of unites. You don’t need to speak the language,” she says.

Admission is free and open to the public. The Gallery Theater is located on the third floor of Rio Grande Campus, 1212 Rio Grande St.
