Ride Capital Metro: Pick Up Fall Green Pass Now

ACC Green Pass users have taken more than a million rides since the program to offer Capital Metro passes to students and employees began – and fall semester passes are now available. They are valid immediately and active through January 16, 2012.

“Green Pass helps students get to class, eases parking congestion on ACC’s campuses, and reduces the college’s impact on the environment,” says Andy Kim, director of environmental stewardship. “We’ve seen significant increases in ridership this year, and we encourage all students, faculty, and staff to give it a try.”

Green Passes are available at any campus cashier office. Students, faculty, and staff must show their ACC ID, and students need to be enrolled in fall credit classes (and must have paid tuition in full or set up a payment plan). The college’s student sustainability fee ($1 per credit hour)and employee parking permit fees cover program costs; there is no additional cost to obtain a pass.

ACC began offering Green Pass in January 2010. Last November, ACC renewed its agreement with Capital Metro for a 20-month term through August 31, 2012.

“Green Pass provides tremendous benefits to ACC as well as the community as a whole,” says Linda S. Watson, Capital Metro president/CEO. “The program reduces the number of vehicles on the road and improves air quality while providing a valuable service to college students and employees. We look forward to continuing this partnership with ACC.”

Bus riders are required to swipe their Green Passes in the fare box and show an ACC ID while boarding; MetroRail riders must insert their Green Passes into the ticket validator and show an ACC ID when prompted by fare inspectors.

Capital Metro route changes that better serve ACC campuses include stops at Cypress Creek (added in January 2011) and Northridge (coming August 21, 2011).
