Approved for CHIP? Release needed to drop MSO children from state health coverage

If your child is approved for the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP), you must remove that child from the Texas Employees Group Benefits Program (GBP) health coverage within 31 days of the CHIP approval. However, a child who is enrolled in GBP health coverage because of a medical support order (MSO) cannot be removed from GBP health coverage without a release from the Office of the Attorney General or other office that sent the MSO. If you have an MSO-child who is approved for CHIP, you must get a release from the Office of the Attorney General or other office that sent the MSO to drop the child from your GBP health coverage. After getting the release, take it to your benefits coordinator (or accessHR for HHSC Enterprise employees) to drop your child from your health coverage.
