Faculty & Staff Invited to Discuss “Achieving the Dream”

All employees are invited to participate in a series of presentations and conversations about ACC’s progress toward meeting the goals of the “Achieving the Dream” initiative when facilitators from program visit the college on Wednesday, October 5 through Friday, October 7.

Achieving the Dream is a national nonprofit program dedicated to helping community college students remain in college and earn a degree or certificate. The program targets students who traditionally have faced barriers to success, such as minority students, those who are first in their families to attend college, and students from low-income families. AtD has been a component of ACC’s Student Success Initiative for the past two years, focusing on four key intervention areas:

  • Required orientation for First-Time-in-College students.
  • The Developmental Math Advisor Program to support developmental math students’ transition to college-level courses.
  • The Developing Mathematical Thinking (MATD 0385) course for students who do not need college algebra for their degree, and,
  • A Faculty Coach Program to evaluate and apply student performance data in curriculum revision and redesign.

“We continue to see steady and significant progress toward our goals of engaging diverse groups of students and implementing reforms that will enhance their success,” says Dr. Stephanie Hawley, Associate Vice President, College Access Programs. “The involvement of our faculty and staff has been absolutely crucial to that progress. It really does take a whole college to do the work that we’re doing.”

All presentations will be at the Highland Business Center. Any faculty or staff members wanting to participate are asked to RSVP to Millie Marquis at [email protected]. Non-faculty employees should have supervisory approval to attend. To learn more about AtD, visit the SSI website.
