ACC Students, Employees Volunteer in Fire-Ravaged Bastrop County

Austin Community College students, faculty, and staff will help Bastrop fire victims during an all-day volunteer effort Saturday, October 8.

Participants will distribute food and supplies as well as clear damaged properties from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. ACC organizations including Men of Distinction, a mentoring group, will be on site.

“The Bastrop community has a long and difficult road ahead, and we want to do everything we can to make the rebuilding process easier,” says Jarrell McCullar, Men of Distinction program coordinator. “Our program values giving back and connecting with the community, and this is a great opportunity to show our neighbors we care.”

The college’s employee associations have collected money for fire victims, including faculty and staff who live in the Bastrop area. ACC’s student emergency fund is available to help students directly impacted by the fire.

Note: Thanks to a wonderful response, Saturday’s ACC volunteer shifts are full. If you are interested in helping the Bastrop community another time, please contact the Bastrop Volunteer Reception Center (512.332.2607).
