ACC Students Partner with City of Austin on Sustainability

The City of Austin is partnering with Austin Community College District students to analyze topics of sustainability.

Students from ACC’s Geographic Information Systems (GIS) program will showcase their semester-long projects on Friday, December 9 (3-5 p.m.) at the Austin City Hall Atrium, 301 West 2nd St. The event will feature free local coffee and homemade chocolate chip cookies, and the project authors will be in attendance to visit with viewers.

The City of Austin Office of Sustainability worked with GIS students in looking at a variety of topics of interest to Central Texans, including:

  • Analyzing the distance food travels to be sold at a local farmer’s market and a grocery store;
  • Assessing changes to protected lands in Travis County over the past five years;
  • Prioritizing abandoned well sites for geothermal energy production;
  • Identifying green industry clusters in Austin; and more.

If you have any questions about the Poster Session, contact GSI Department Chair Sean Moran at [email protected], or visit accgis.org to learn more about the ACC’s GIS program.
