ACC En Español: College Enhances Spanish-Language Website

The Austin Community College District has enhanced the Spanish-language version of its website to provide essential information about the college to prospective students and their families.

The site, located at austincc.edu/espanol, includes news and information about admissions, financial aid, registration, programs of study, and ESL classes. The site also features a glossary of academic terms and videos of student stories.

ACC en Español is a great way for families to learn more about the many training and education opportunities available at ACC,” says Brette Lea, executive director of Public Information and College Marketing. “Latino students make up the fastest growing segment of the college, and this website will ensure everyone has access to helpful information needed to make important decisions about their future.”

Between 2005 and 2011, the number of Hispanic credit students enrolled at the college increased 59 percent to 11,888. ACC has met the qualifications for recognition as a Hispanic Serving Institution, a federal designation indicating the college maintains 25 percent or greater full-time equivalent Hispanic enrollment. (Hispanic students made up more than 27 percent of credit enrollment in fall 2011.)

The number of Hispanic residents within ACC’s eight-county service area is projected to grow to compose 34 percent of the area’s total population by 2015.
