The Austin Community College District Board of Trustees is dedicating the student lounge of Rio Grande Campus in honor of Dr. Stephen B. Kinslow, retired president/CEO. Dr. Kinslow began his ACC career as an assistant dean at Rio Grande in 1977.
“For more than three decades, Dr. Kinslow worked to open the door of opportunity to students across Central Texas,” says Dr. Barbara Mink, chair of the ACC Board of Trustees. “This is a wonderful way to pay tribute to his commitment to students and their success.”
The board hosted a reception in the newly named Dr. Stephen B. Kinslow Student Lounge Friday, February 10, with entertainment provided by The Numbers (the ACC Math Department’s Dixieland jazz band). The lounge is located on the first floor of the main building at Rio Grande (1212 Rio Grande St.).
Dr. Kinslow spent 34 years with the college, serving as president/CEO from 2005 until his retirement in 2011. He led ACC through historic growth and change, with accomplishments including record enrollment increases and the establishment of the college’s Student Success Initiative.
“Dr. Kinslow played a central role in elevating ACC’s profile throughout the region,” says Dr. Richard Rhodes, ACC president/CEO. “We are grateful for his leadership, and the lounge will serve to remind current and future students of Dr. Kinslow’s longtime dedication to ACC.”

Who was the band that played at the event today? They were ACC faculty and maybe students? Why weren’t they mentioned? Anyway…just curious as to who they were….they were really great!

Dear Dr. Hetrick: The entertainment came from The Numbers, the ACC Math Department’s Dixieland jazz band. We’ve added that to the announcement, with a link to a feature story about the band. Enjoy!

I hope that this lounge will inspire students who enjoy it to emulate Dr. Kinslow’s wit and humor many of us have enjoyed.
