New Journalism Class Examines Issues Facing Modern Media

A new course offered this fall at ACC will introduce students to major issues facing the journalism industry.

Critical Issues in Journalism (COMM 2302) will examine how the media operate in today’s democratic society, with topics including ethics, effects, and standards of press performance. The course will be taught by Paul Brown, an assistant professor and anchor for YNN with more than 25 years of experience in the journalism industry.

The course will be held Mondays and Wednesdays from 9 to 10:30 a.m. at Rio Grande Campus (1212 Rio Grande Street). It is required for all ACC journalism majors, as well as those who plan to pursue a bachelor’s in journalism at the University of Texas at Austin. The class will transfer to Texas State University as a journalism elective.

“The journalism field is constantly changing, and we want our students to be aware of how those changes impact the way journalism is practiced today,” says Judy Sanders, chair of the Journalism Department.

Fall registration is now open to all students. To register for COMM 2302 or other classes, visit austincc.edu/register.
