“The ACC Jazz Ensemble 30th Anniversary Concert will be an exciting night – a heart-stoppin’, toe-tappin’, viscera-shakin’ experience,” says Dr. Tom Husak, director of the Jazz Ensemble. “It will be a celebration of American big band jazz, pop, soul, blues, and country music.”Â

The Jazz Ensemble plays at a 2009 presidential inauguration gala in Washington, D.C.

Over the past three decades, the Jazz Ensemble has presented classic American jazz and pop music to audiences throughout Austin and across the state and nation -Â at concerts, receptions, charity events, dances, and even a presidential inauguration gala.Â

“We have been playing some of the greatest songs in history for 30 years, and to think that generations of people have been sharing their passion for music with us is just amazing,” says Dr. Husak.Â

For the anniversary concert, the Jazz Ensemble will be accompanied by jazz drum legend Charli Persip and Grammy-winning guitarist Redd Volkaert. The music is specially arranged by Dr. Husak.Â

For the Jazz Ensemble, the concert is the celebration of one era – and the beginning of another.Â

“We are always looking for new challenges both in repertoire and stylistic choices,” Dr. Husak notes. “I hope we can do a 50th anniversary concert, because I’ll be ready!”Â

Tickets for the anniversary concert are available online through Texas Performing Arts. Student tickets are $10; general admission tickets are $20. Bass Concert Hall is located at 2300 Robert Dedman Dr. For more information on the concert, visit the Jazz Ensemble’s Facebook page.
