ACC Renewable Energy Camp Brings Teens into the Future of Solar Energy

Youth Programs logoAustin Community College is giving Central Texas teenagers a jump on the future of solar energy with a renewable energy camp at Riverside Campus.Â

During the free camp, high school students get an up-close look at innovations in solar technology, build and race their own solar-powered model cars, and visit the power plant at the University of Texas at Austin.

“These students are learning about how the energy transition we are going through affects their lives and their futures,” says camp instructor Bill Morrison, adjunct professor in ACC’s Electronics and Advanced Technologies Department. “As time goes on, how we produce and consume energy will become increasingly important.”

The camp is funded by a grant from Texas Workforce Commission in conjunction with the Governor’s Summer Merit Program, which aims to inspire Texas youth to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering, and math.

The camp is hosted by ACC Youth Programs, which provides challenging and engaging educational activities that increase academic achievement and develop a college-going culture. Camps are free to participants, with priority given to underserved youth, especially foster children. For more information, visit austincc.edu/youth.

Registration is closed for this year’s camp.
