August 17 College & Career Fair Highlights Job Growth in Electronics Field

In response to a growing need for electronics technicians in the Austin area, Austin Community College’s Electronics and Advanced Technologies Department will host a college and career fair Friday, August 17, from 10 a.m. to noon (1020 Grove Blvd., Building G, Room 8100). The event, which is open to students and the public, will highlight training and career opportunities. It is co-hosted by Manpower Incorporated.

The college’s Electronics and Advanced Technologies Program trains students for a variety of fields:

  • Automation and robotics
  • Nanoelectronics manufacturing
  • Networking and computer electronics
  • Electronics technician
  • Engineering technology
  • Renewable energy
  • Utility lineworker

The event will feature representatives from Manpower Incorporated, National Instruments, Austin Energy, and other companies. Students can meet with Capital IDEA, ACC financial aid representatives, and academic advisors; ACC faculty will discuss the hands-on training available through the college’s program.

“With the proliferation of smartphones, tablets, and other electronic devices, this field is growing rapidly,” says Dr. Alberto Quinonez, chair of the Electronics and Advanced Technologies Program. “By working closely with Central Texas employers, we ensure our program prepares students for what they’ll experience on the job and that they’ll have the skills employers want.”
