Head to ACC Campuses October 10 to Celebrate QEP Day

Austin Community College is hosting QEP Day on Wednesday, Oct. 10, to raise awareness of Math PLUS, the college’s new quality enhancement plan (QEP).

Every campus is planning activities and giveaways as part of a campaign to help faculty, staff, and students learn about the proposed plan to increase students’ success rates in developmental math courses.

QEP Day sets the stage for the upcoming visit by the college’s accrediting organization, the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges, scheduled for Oct. 30-Nov. 1. The QEP is a key component of the reaffirmation of accreditation process, and the SACSCOC team will review the Math Department’s proposal and may ask faculty, staff, and students what they know about the program.

“The Math Department has put in tremendous effort to develop a curriculum that helps even struggling students master mathematics so they can go on to earn a college degree,” says Joey Offer, ACC professor and Math PLUS director.

During QEP Day, students also will have an opportunity to learn about Basic Math Skills with Collaborative Learning (MATD 0332), a new pilot course that provides the foundation for Math PLUS. The course will be available in the spring to any student who scored below 26 on the COMPASS math assessment.
