Music Professor Featured by Austin Civic Orchestra

Sharon Davis has been the Austin Civic Orchestra's principal flutist for 14 years.

Sharon Davis, an ACC associate music professor, was featured by the Austin Civic Orchestra during its first concert of the season.

The September concert, entitled “This Land is Your Land,” featured the Texas premiere of guest composer David Amram’s folk-inspired “Symphonic Variations on a Song by Woody Guthrie.” Davis performed a concerto by Franz Doppler.

Davis has been the principal flutist with the orchestra for 14 years. She was chosen to perform the Doppler piece by winning a contest among orchestra members. For the contest, Davis prepared for months before performing in front of the orchestra’s conductor.

“I was so proud and happy to win the contest to perform my favorite concerto. Few instrumentalists are able to do something like that in their lives or careers,” Davis says. “Playing in the orchestra has been the most rewarding experience of my life.”
