Luggage Drive Benefits Foster Care Alumni

Austin Community College is kicking off its fifth annual luggage drive to benefit teenagers leaving the foster care system.

When teenagers in foster care graduate from high school, they often leave their foster residences with nothing in which to carry their belongings. Each year, ACC collects new luggage and contributions toward the purchase of luggage to assist them.

“Many times, foster care alumni carry their belongings in a garbage bag or pillowcase,” says Loretta Edelen, director of community outreach. “A new piece of luggage can really help them with their transition to adulthood.”

Donations are encouraged by February 16. Additional donations will be accepted through the spring semester. Luggage can be delivered to representatives at each campus; financial contributions are accepted at all campus cashier offices or online through ACC Marketplace.
