Austin Community College encourages individuals to complete their General Educational Development (GED) exam before the current version of the exam expires at the end of the year. Students who have not completed all sections of the GED in 2013 will have to retake the entire exam.

“Even if you’ve taken four out of five sections of the exam, those results will be wiped out in January 2014,” says David Borden, executive director of ACC’s Adult Education Division. “Next year may seem far away, but it takes time to register and prepare for the test.”

Starting in 2014, the exam will become completely computer-based, so students will no longer have the option of taking a paper exam. It will include more short answer, essay, and fill-in-the-blank questions, and the exam fee will increase.

ACC Adult Education is committed to helping students complete their GED. The college offers reading, writing, and math preparation classes at all levels, and Adult Education courses are offered without charge throughout Travis County. About half of ACC’s GED completers go on to college – significantly above state and national averages.

ACC has GED testing centers at the Round Rock Campus (4400 College Park Dr.) and Highland Business Center (5930 Middle Fiskville Rd.). Testing schedules are available online. Students should call 223.7714 or 223.0158 to set up an exam at either center.
