ACC 1-on-1 Early Advising Program Launches

Austin Community College is launching ACC 1-on-1, a new program that gives current, former, and prospective students access to personalized advising before the rush of registration season. From March 19 through April 19, individuals can meet with an advisor at any campus to discuss what ACC offers and plan for the future – even prior to completing the ACC application.

“For students, a college education can lead to a better job. For the community, it means a stronger workforce with employees ready to hit the ground running,” says Dorado Kinney, dean of student services at Eastview Campus. “ACC 1-on-1 is designed to help more people enroll in college and continue on a successful path. We want to make sure the community knows we’re available now to help with that process.”

Individuals can make an appointment with an advisor through a dedicated phone number or email address. Call (512) 223.7747 or email [email protected]. Information on the program is available at austincc.edu/getstarted.

ACC 1-on-1 is open to everyone – people just starting to consider college, current students, and those who previously attended college but had to stop out due to family or work obligations. The program’s goal is to ultimately increase the number of college graduates in the region.

“In order to grow the area’s skilled workforce, it’s critical that students are supported throughout their college education – and especially at the beginning,” says Drew Scheberle, senior vice president for education and talent development at the Austin Chamber of Commerce. “ACC 1-on-1 is a great way to get students on the path to hands-on training for growing career fields.”

ACC 1-on-1 will be offered at all of ACC’s campuses, located throughout Austin and in Williamson County. Early advising gives students an opportunity to explore options ahead of registration. For new students, summer registration begins in May. Fall registration begins for new students in June. In-district tuition is $62 per credit hour, making ACC the most affordable college education in the area.

The college offers more than 100 fields of study. In recent semesters, ACC has expanded career training in high-demand areas such as architectural and engineering computer aided design, culinary arts, biotechnology, real estate, automotive technology, and more. The college recently instituted a reverse transfer agreement with the University of Texas at Austin, allowing transfer students to combine credits to earn an associate degree – another way ACC is working to increase the number of college graduates in Central Texas.
